Fifty first trip around the sun.
There are no posts for the year 2012, because from my perspective, the majority of it was horrible.
The universe reaped 3 people from my life. Two family members and a very good friend. It was greedy, and tried to take a fourth... unsuccessfully. Which resulted in probably the only bright moment last year. A wedding.
Will resume quitting the coffin nails. Last year's epic fail. It was going so well, until all the carnage started happening. Then it all went to sh!te. Hardest thing to do... and yet, long term probably the most rewarding. Quit.

on compassion
You may or may not realize what a wonderful thing you are doing for the colony and it's inhabitants. I just wanted to say THANK YOU for being such a wonderfully selfless compassionate human being.

bruins vs canucks
I've been a Boston Bruin fan since I was about 9 years old.
I don't regularly follow hockey, just the playoffs. It's hockey rehab. The same amount of teams now make the playoffs, that were in the league when I was a kid. So it's a year of hockey compressed into 2+ months.
This year I'm torn. I still hope the Bruins win the Stanley Cup... but as a Canadian kid, I feel compelled to hope for Vancouver, as a patriotic bent.
Either way, someone will win the cup this year.
Go Bruins Go!

facebook... scourge, resource or clicky highschool bullshit revisited?
great?! so now i'm on fakebook, aka facebook.
let the binary friending frenzy begin. i would add, at this point, the only reason i joined. the nomad became engaged and everyone else in the f'n world knew but me apparently. this is due, in large part, to not being on fakebook.
well... if you can't beat 'em... mock 'em. you can do more damage from the inside anyway.
comment jacking anyone?

ides of march... indeed
beware the ides of march | william shakespeare | Julius Caesar |
so i had a package of motorcycle goodies arrive at the post office last week. i went today to pick it up.
then i received my 'ides of march' moment.
bloody canada border services charged $78.35, in addition to the ungodly hst sum of $77.05 piggybacked on top of that. total $160.40 on a declared value of $440.
tax on tax to the tune of 36%... thanks ndp wankers. it's a good thing the ndp have a majority, it'll be their last government. the unfair taxation gospel they used to preach ended right after their first budget.
at least you knew you were going to be fleeced or suckerpunched by the liberals and conservatives. the expectation bar was set for low for those parties, a government without scandal or corruption, was virtually unheard of.
and now from the looks of it, we will be headed to the polls federally. although the facist / reformer / conservative steve hitler and the conservatives, aka 'the harper government' formerly known as 'the government of canada', seem to think an election will cause another earthquake and tsunami in japan.
seriously canada... wake the fuck up. the fear mongering, ego maniacal, liars have to go. that being said i don't trust any of you to not f this up. start drinking the hitler governments koolaid if you want your majority.

the cost of winter
I am a hopeless dealaholic... making this an expensive winter.
The storms, the shoveling, the seemingly endless days of grey punctuated with the occassional bright & sunny -14C temperatures, nudged me into an online shopping binge like a stripper on a payday in a mining town.
Mostly because the only extremity that isn't completely frozen is the 'Add to cart' finger. All of it has been motorcycle gear... and the snow and ice are not exactly riding weather.
I've dropped about $450 in the "Closeout" department of MotorcycleGear.com, formerly "New Enough". And for that princely sum received, two HJC flip up modular helmets & 3 pairs of riding/cargo pants and a communication system, tax in and delivered to the door.
Now it's just waiting game... How many sleeps 'til spring?

on remembering a friend
On February 26, 2006, my friend Mike Dixon passed away.
It's been just over 5 years now since he died. And today I had this twinge of something, maybe forgetfulness. Like I had forgot something. Then I remembered what it was, a sober anniversary of sorts.
Now, I don't go to the cemetery to mark his passing, I go on the birthday we shared. Sure it's weird, but I don't give a shit how you feel about it... it's what I do. Grieve, mourn, remember how you want.
So I kind of forgot all about it this year, the day he passed. Never really gave it much thought... until today. I'm trying to be a better friend... but life sort of gets in the way sometimes. You get sidetracked and lose your focus on the details.
So maybe, it's good to have had the day sort of slip by, it's a sign of healing, a return to normalcy... whatever that is. Still miss him though, five years on.
